Math Headquarters

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA wanted a Math for women to be founded where hundreds of young women would be provided with the means of attaining their own liberation and of preparing themselves for the service of womankind.

The Math is located in its own buildings at Dakshineswar on the eastern bank of the Ganga, a little north of the famous Dakshineswar Kali Temple where Sri Ramakrishna lived and practised his spiritual sadhanas

The Math has a beautiful stone temple which was consecrated on 6th November 1981, the Jagaddhatri Puja day. Worship of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda is performed every day as well as evening arati & bhajans; and fortnightly Ramnam Samkirtan. The birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda are duly celebrated with special puja and homa. Meetings are held on these occasions and thousands of women devotees join the celebrations. Birthdays of other great world teachers as well as some festivals are also observed with suitable programmes. Since 2007 Sri Sri Jagaddhatri is worshiped in the Image every year.

Weekly religious classes for ladies are held at the Math.

Training of the novices and the brahmacharinis remains an important feature of the Math.

Publication: The Math publishes books on Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, Swami Vivekananda and others; it brought out a semi-annual journal in English called Samvit, which is published from the New Delhi Centre and a Bengali journal Nibodhata published bi-monthly from the Headquarters.
