Devastating
floods in September 2007 left almost 30 lakhs of people
stranded in West Bengal alone, which is one of the worst
hit States. Many of the villages located between the
rivers Damodar and Mundeswari remained submerged for
weeks together. Food and water were scarce. Sri Sarada
Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission took up flood relief
in the affected areas of Medinipur, Howrah, Hooghly,
and Bankura Districts by supplying food, medicines,
tarpaulin, rubber sheets, saris, clothes, winter garments
and blankets with the help of friends and devotees.
A series of medical camps were conducted in those areas.
Cooked food: Cooked food was served to flood affected
people in Howrah & Hooghly Districts for fifteen
days. Total number of beneficiaries: 29,996 persons.
