Devastating floods in September 2007 left almost 30 lakhs of people stranded in West Bengal alone, which is one of the worst hit States. Many of the villages located between the rivers Damodar and Mundeswari remained submerged for weeks together. Food and water were scarce. Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission took up flood relief in the affected areas of Medinipur, Howrah, Hooghly, and Bankura Districts by supplying food, medicines, tarpaulin, rubber sheets, saris, clothes, winter garments and blankets with the help of friends and devotees. A series of medical camps were conducted in those areas.

Cooked food: Cooked food was served to flood affected people in Howrah & Hooghly Districts for fifteen days. Total number of beneficiaries: 29,996 persons. Total amount spent. Rs.1,12,749/-

 
 

Medical camps: As the diseases spread fast after such devastation, a series of medical camps were conducted in and around flood-hit areas of Udaynarayanpur of Howrah District with the help of volunteer organizations like Sarada Kalyan and local doctors. A large number of cases of conjunctivitis were treated. Cases of dysentery, viral fevers were many. Gift medicines worth Rs.30,000/- were received from Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matribhavan and others. Head Quarters spent Rs.7000/- for the purpose. Total amount spent: Rs.37,000/-

Sanitation: The items for sanitation and shelter were received as gift from kind and generous public.225 tarpaulins along with 4 bags of bleaching powder, 35 liters of phenyl, zeoline were supplied to rehabilitate the displaced villagers of specially Devipur, Howrah District. Total cost being Rs.56,411/-

The Math and Mission provides support, help and hope to the needy during natural calamities like flood and earthquake. It provides financial assistance, blankets, cotton and warm garments to needy women & children during winter. Milk, free tiffin, tuition fees are regularly provided for needy children.
