Update of the Restoration work of Sister Nivedita’s House at 16, Bosepara Lane, Baghbazar, Kolkata
The house that has played a vital role in the Ramakrishna Movement is undergoing a facelift and the past is gradually revealing itself. This update is to keep the innumerable devotees, friends, admirers of Sister, and well wishers who have contributed in so many different ways to this noble project, abreast of the progress of the work.
The building has suffered a lot of additions and alterations between Sister’s leaving the house till it was handed over to the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission in 2013. These had to be meticulously and carefully investigated and removed without damaging or hurting the original structure. The following photos give an idea of the present condition of the building.

The restoration work is being done under expert consultation. Skilled masons, close supervision and valuable guidance have been provided by the Archeological Survey of India, Kolkata for this project. Till now, 35% of the work has been completed. The Ramakrishna Sarada Mission has undertaken the gigantic task of restoring the house, setting up a museum and archives to preserve Sister Nivedita’s writings etc. The Mission also proposes to set up a Research Centre for conducting research work on Sister’s life and her contribution to education, art, science, literature etc. as a befitting tribute for her 150th birth anniversary on 28.10.2017.

Pravrajika Prabhaprana, a Sannyasini of Sri Sarada Math, presently Secretary of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, New Delhi, met the Hon’ble President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on the 30th of July, 2015 to discuss the proposed projects to be undertaken by Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission in connection with Sister Nivedita’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations, which would be concluded on the 28th of October, 2017. The Hon’ble President responded warmly.
