Pravrajika Sadatmaprana (Kalpana)
We are sorry to record the sudden passing away of Pravrajika Sadatmaprana (Kalpana), age 60, at the Headquarters on Friday, the 20th April, 2012 at 5 a.m. due to cerebral hemorrhage. The end was peaceful.
In 2004, she was diagnosed to have a very rare kind of blood disorder known as Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, for which she was treated with chemotherapy. However, in January 2011, she was diagnosed to have breast cancer which had already spread to the spine. After prolonged and painful treatment, she returned to the Math in October 2011. All along, during her hospitalization, she continued, to her utmost capacity, to work for Nibodhata, correcting proofs, writing articles and so on. But in January 2012, there was a relapse and the cancer spread to the brain. After undergoing a course of rays, she again returned to the Math and gave herself heart and soul to the preparation of the Silver Jubilee Function of Nibodhata at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture on 4th February, making it a grand success. However, in spite of monthly check-up and treatment by the best hematologists and oncologists, most unexpectedly and within a short time, she left the ailing body.
A disciple of Pravrajika Bharatiprana, she joined the Order in October 1976 at the Nivedita School. After serving in different centres, in 1984 she returned to the Headquarters. She was invested with Sannyasa by Pravrajika Mokshaprana in 1986. Having gained experience in editing and publishing when she worked for the Samvit journal at the New Delhi centre, she was involved in the publication of the newly started Bengali magazine Nibodhata. In 1990 she was appointed Joint Editor of the Journal for which she worked with her whole mind and heart for 28 years, having made it her sadhana and worship.
Humble and dignified, she attracted all by her sweet and courteous behaviour. Endowed with a sharp intellect, literary and artistic talents and a deep insight into the spiritual life and its goal, her noble character, childlike and pure, was a source of inspiration to many. With her, the Order has lost a valuable asset. |
